Privacy at the car park, comfort on the road

A day out on Ilkley Moor or further up Wharfedale often means leaving the car in a car park for hours. Darker rear glass makes it harder to see what’s inside. Tint also cuts glare and heat in the cabin and blocks the UV that fades leather, fabric and trim.

We fit within the UK rules (see is car window tinting legal?):

  • Windscreen: must let through at least 75% of light
  • Front side windows: at least 70%
  • Rear side windows and rear screen: can go darker

Most Ilkley customers go for darker rear glass and leave the fronts within the limits. You keep the privacy without risking a fine or points on your licence.

Tint prices for Ilkley

Whether you want the whole back half of the car darkened or just a colour-shift windscreen, the price comes down to your glass. All prices are from the amounts shown below, +VAT:

Job Time in the studio Price
Privacy tint for the rear side windows and rear screen 2–4 hours from £180 +VAT
Legal-limit front side windows 1–2 hours from £85 +VAT
Chameleon windscreen 1–2 hours from £180 +VAT
Chameleon front side windows 1–2 hours from £120 +VAT
Head or tail light tint 1–2 hours from £60 +VAT per pair
Removing old tint about 2 hours from £100 +VAT

We’ll confirm the full price, and the shade, before you set off from Wharfedale, so there are no surprises when you arrive.

Picking the right shade

We stock shades from 5% (the darkest) to 70%. Before anything is fitted, we’ll hold samples up against your glass and show you how each one looks from inside and out. That way you can see the difference between a light smoke and full privacy on your own car, not in a brochure.

Damp Dales winters and strong summer sun both test a film’s adhesive and its colour over the years. That’s why we fit film only from the makers above, with a warranty of up to a lifetime depending on the film you choose (manufacturer terms apply). Your quote spells out which film you’re getting and what its warranty covers.

A few hours, one trip

Window tint takes a few hours in the studio, usually 1–4 depending on the windows. Leave Ilkley after breakfast, drop the car at Unit 7, and it’s normally ready later that day, with no second journey over the moor. If the car is also in for paint protection film (2–7 days) or a wrap (2–10 days), we fit the tint within that stay, and an Enterprise rental can be arranged for the days you’re without it.

Ilkley window tinting FAQs

Is it worth driving from Ilkley for window tint?

If you want a clean, lasting finish, yes. Tint goes on the inside of the glass, so the conditions it’s fitted in show in the result, and with only a few hours in the studio it’s a single round trip.

How much does window tinting cost?

Rear side windows and rear screen start from £180 +VAT, and the two front side windows from £85 +VAT. Chameleon tint starts from £180 +VAT for a windscreen and from £120 +VAT for the front side windows; head or tail light tint starts from £60 +VAT per pair.

How dark can I go?

At the front, not far: the windscreen must let through at least 75% of light and the front side windows at least 70%, for cars first used from 1 April 1985. The rear side windows and rear screen have no legal limit.

Will tint stop people seeing into my car at moor car parks?

Dark rear tint makes it much harder to see bags, coats or walking kit on the back seat or in the boot, which is why most Ilkley customers choose it. It’s a deterrent, not a lock, so keep valuables out of sight as usual.

Does tint keep the cabin cooler?

Yes. Window film reduces the heat and glare coming through the glass and blocks UV, which also slows the fading of leather and trim.

How long does window tinting take?

A few hours, usually 1–4 depending on the windows. Most cars arrive in the morning and are ready to collect that afternoon.

Which tint brands do you use?

Our window films come from Avery Dennison, 3M, Arlon, Oracal, XPEL, ProFilm, STEK and APA, and we’re official installers of each.

What warranty do I get on window tint?

A warranty of up to a lifetime, depending on the film. Manufacturer terms apply, and we confirm the details on your quote.

Can you tint the windows while the car is in for PPF or a wrap?

Yes. We’ll fit the tint during the same stay, so the whole job is done in one visit to the studio.

Can you come to Ilkley to fit the tint?

No. Every tint is fitted in our climate-controlled studio near Harrogate, because a speck of dust under the film stays there for good.
