// Racing-Colour Wraps: British Racing Green, Rosso Corsa and More

Rear three-quarter view of the dark green Bentley Bentayga in gloss STEK PPF

Long before sponsors’ logos covered race cars, you could tell where a car came from by its colour. British cars were green, Italian cars red, French cars blue and German cars white, later silver. Those national racing colours still influence the cars we love today, and they make brilliant inspiration for a colour-change wrap.

Here’s a quick look at where they came from, and how to give your own car a touch of motorsport heritage.

Where National Racing Colours Came From

In the early days of international motor racing, cars were entered by country rather than by team. To tell them apart, each nation was given its own colour. The tradition stuck for decades, until commercial sponsorship arrived and liveries started to follow the money instead.

Even so, the colours never went away. Many manufacturers still offer them, and enthusiasts still choose them because they carry a sense of history.

The Six Colours of Car Racing

British racing green

Deep, rich and understated, British racing green is the colour of classic British sports cars. It suits elegant grand tourers and modern performance cars equally well.

Italian red

The red of Italian racing is perhaps the most famous racing colour of all. It’s bold, passionate and instantly associated with speed.

French blue

France raced in blue, and the colour still appears on French performance cars today. It’s bright, confident and distinctive.

German white and silver

German cars originally raced in white, and later in bare silver. Silver remains a classic choice for German performance cars.

Belgian yellow

Belgium raced in yellow, a striking colour that still stands out on any road.

American white and blue

The United States used white with blue stripes, a combination that inspired many famous American performance car stripes.

Why Choose a Racing Colour Wrap?

A colour-change wrap lets you enjoy a heritage colour without a permanent respray.

  • Reversible: the original paint stays protected underneath.
  • Choice of finish: gloss, satin or matt, or even a metallic, can give a classic colour a modern twist.
  • Personal: pair a heritage colour with contrasting stripes, wheels or calipers.
  • Value-friendly: keeping the factory colour underneath can be a plus when you sell.

Styling Tips

Match the colour to the car

British racing green looks right on British GTs; Italian red on an Italian sports car. But there are no rules: a satin green on a German saloon can look superb.

Add classic details

  • Stripes: a simple central stripe nods to racing heritage.
  • Calipers: contrasting calipers, from £250 +VAT, add a subtle performance hint.
  • Dechroming: black trim, from £100 +VAT, sharpens the look.
  • Wheels: refurbished or recoloured wheels finish it off.

Consider a satin finish

Satin versions of classic colours look modern and refined, and they highlight a car’s shape beautifully.

What Does It Cost?

  • Full colour-change wrap: from £2,000 +VAT
  • Printed or custom design (for stripes, roundels or detailed graphics): from £3,000 +VAT
  • Design fee: from £150 +VAT
  • Ceramic coating over a wrap: from £200 +VAT
  • On paintwork, our ceramic packages start from £400 +VAT (Bronze), from £600 +VAT (Silver) and from £800 +VAT (Gold).

Remember the DVLA

If a wrap changes your car’s main colour, you should update your V5C with the DVLA and let your insurer know. We explain this in our guide to telling the DVLA about a wrap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see the colour before committing?

Yes. We can show you samples of colours and finishes in the studio, so you can judge them in real light rather than on a screen.

Will a wrap damage my paint?

A professionally fitted wrap is designed to be removed later. If your paint is original and in good condition, careful removal leaves it as it was, protected from light scratches and fading in the meantime. We check the paint first and tell you honestly if a respray or repair has left areas we’d be cautious about.
