What a coating does for your car
Once cured, a ceramic coating forms a thin, hard shell over the clear coat or film. For York drivers, that pays off in a few ways:
- Muck from the A64 and farm traffic rinses off instead of baking onto the paint.
- Rain beads and rolls away, taking loose dirt with it.
- Deeper colour and sharper reflections, whether the finish is gloss, satin or matt.
- Less effort at wash time, which means fewer swirl marks building up over the years.
One honest caveat: a coating adds gloss and makes cleaning easier, but it is not chip protection. That’s a job for paint protection film.

Coating plus PPF
A popular combination is PPF across the front of the car, the area that takes the stone chips on the A64 and A1(M), with a ceramic coat over the film and the rest of the bodywork. The film soaks up impacts; the coating keeps everything slick and glossy. Coating new film starts from £200 +VAT, and the film keeps its own manufacturer’s warranty: up to 8–12 years for PPF and 3 years for wraps.

We use ceramic coatings from Gyeon, CarPro and Gtechniq, and we’ll tell you which one we recommend for your car, and what it’s rated for, when we quote.
From booking to collection
- Tell us about the car: make, model, condition and whether it has film on it. We’ll come back with a clear price.
- Deep clean: a thorough wash, then chemical and clay decontamination to lift fallout, tar and old protection.
- Polish: the level of machine correction depends on your package.
- Coat: every panel is wiped down, then coated by hand in our climate-controlled studio.
- Cure, then hand-over: the coating cures before you collect, and we run through how to look after it.
Aftercare
- No washing for 5 days after collection while the coating finishes curing.
- Use a pH-neutral shampoo, a clean mitt and two buckets.
- Keep away from brush car washes.
- Dry with a plush microfibre towel or a blower.
- After winter trips on gritted roads, give the sills and arches a rinse sooner rather than later.
- Annual inspection and top-up: book the car in once a year and we’ll check the coating and refresh it. Ask us for a price.

What will a ceramic coating cost me?
A coat over new PPF or a wrap starts from £200 +VAT. With paint preparation included, it’s from £400 +VAT for Bronze, from £600 +VAT for Silver and from £800 +VAT for Gold. Send us the details and we’ll confirm.
How many years will it protect the car?
Bronze uses a 2-year coating, Silver gives you a choice of 2, 3 or 5 years, and Gold 2, 3, 5 or 9 years. How the car is washed and where it’s kept also make a difference.
Should I choose PPF or ceramic?
You don’t have to choose. PPF is a physical barrier against chips and scuffs; ceramic is a glossy, easy-clean layer. Plenty of owners have film on the front and a coating everywhere.
My paint has swirl marks. Is that a problem?
Not at all. A coating would lock those marks in, which is why Silver and Gold include machine correction first. We’ll look at the paint and suggest the right level.
Will you coat my new wrap or PPF?
Yes. Coating fresh film starts from £200 +VAT and is done within the same booking.
Do you do wheels, glass or interiors?
Yes, we coat all three. Ask for a price when you request your quote.
Can you come to me in York?
We don’t offer a mobile service. You bring the car to our Knaresborough studio, about 30 minutes from York, because the coating needs a clean, dry, temperature-controlled space to cure properly.
How long do you need the car?
One day (24 hours) for Bronze, two days (48 hours) for Silver and three days (72 hours) for Gold.
