Families heading out on the A64 to the coast want shade for the back seats. Commuters on the ring road want less glare when the sun is low. Tint helps with both, and it blocks UV that fades leather and trim.
UK law sets the limits we work to:
- Windscreen: at least 75% of light through
- Front side windows: at least 70%
- Rear side windows and rear screen: can go darker
Rear-only privacy tint is the most popular choice. It’s legal at any shade and leaves the front glass as it is.

Matching your factory privacy glass
Many cars leave the factory with darkened rear glass and clear fronts. We can match the rear shade closely or go darker, and keep the front within the limits so the car looks even from the side.

When you’re blending new film with factory privacy glass, the film matters as much as the shade: brands differ in tone, clarity and how much heat they reject. We’ll choose from the makers above to get the closest match. Window film carries a warranty of up to a lifetime, depending on which film is fitted, under the manufacturer’s terms, and we’ll tell you which applies before you book.
How long your car is with us
Most tints take a few hours. Drop the car at Unit 7 in the morning and it’s normally ready later that afternoon, so it’s one return trip up the A59, not two. If you’d rather not be without a car, we can arrange an Enterprise rental. At collection we’ll tell you how long to leave the windows closed while the film cures.

Around 30 minutes from York along the A59, depending on traffic. Leave the city past Poppleton, cross the A1(M) at Junction 47 and you’ll reach the business park before Knaresborough town centre, so there’s no need to go near Harrogate. From the A64 side of York, the A1237 outer ring road brings you onto the A59. Parking on site.

What does window tinting cost for a York driver?

Is rear-only tint legal?
Yes. UK law sets no light limit for the rear side windows or the rear screen of a car, so rear-only privacy tint can be as dark as you like.
What are the limits for the windscreen and front windows?
On cars first used on or after 1 April 1985, the windscreen has to let through at least 75% of light and the front side windows at least 70%. Factory glass already blocks some light, so we measure yours before recommending a film.
Can you match my car’s factory privacy glass?
Usually, yes. We hold film samples against your rear glass in the studio and pick the closest tone, or go a shade darker if you’d prefer.
How long do you need the car?
A few hours, usually 1–4 depending on the windows. Drop it off in the morning and it’s normally ready to collect that afternoon.
Which tint brands do you install?
We’re official installers of window film from Avery Dennison, 3M, Arlon, Oracal, XPEL, ProFilm, STEK and APA, and we’ll recommend one that suits your glass and the look you want.
How long is the tint warranty?
Window film is covered for up to a lifetime, depending on the film. Manufacturer terms apply, and your quote states the cover for the film we’d fit.
Will tint affect my heated rear screen?
No. The film sits on the inside of the glass and the heating elements keep working. We work carefully around the element contacts during fitting.
Is chameleon tint legal?
It can be, as long as your windscreen and front side windows still meet the legal light limits with the film fitted. We meter the glass and only fit chameleon film where it stays legal.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
It’s sensible to. Tint is a modification, and your insurer should know about it.
