It is difficult to find a broader church than the world of car modification, as it ranges from beautiful wraps, paint jobs and custom looks to fundamental shifts in how a car drives.
Whilst every car and thus every mod is a little unique, there are certain types of car modifications that are more popular than others, and here are some of the most commonly found mods in the UK.
Alloy Wheels
Typically made from aluminium, alloy wheels are a common aftermarket feature for many reasons. Aside from being lighter and with the potential to improve handling and performance, many people choose alloys simply because of the look.
Whether they opt for alloys for performance, ones with additional spinners or ones with a particularly unique look, alloy wheels tend to be a popular and relatively low-cost way to add a personal touch to your car.
Suspension Tweaks
Most car modders have a suspension story. Lowering the suspension is associated with better aerodynamics and thus better grip and handling, but given how critical the suspension is to the feel and ride of the car, it is always something to modify with care.
As much as a lowered car can help performance, lowering it too much can cause the car to bottom out, damaging the car and undermining any potential handling boosts.
It can be done, but it is far more complex than one might expect and may need a bit of testing to make sure you get a system that suits your driving style.
Tinted Windows
People like a bit of privacy in their cars, and in terms of purely aesthetic modifications, tinted windows are amongst the most common changes, as it is typically a low-cost modification.
However, make sure you understand the legality of tinted windows, as there are laws surrounding the amount of light that any tint needs to let through the front windows and windscreen.
