What PPF protects against

Harrogate’s roads are harder on paint than they look. The A61 and A59 carry plenty of lorries throwing up grit, and winter gritting leaves salt and stones across the town’s hills. Tight parking around Montpellier adds the odd scuff.

PPF guards against:

  • Stone chips from the A61, A59 and A1(M)
  • Road salt and grit in winter
  • Light scratches from parking and washing
  • Bird droppings, tree sap and insect marks
  • UV fading

PPF for track days

Many of our Harrogate customers take their cars to Croft, a short run up the A1(M), or further to Cadwell Park. A circuit is far harsher on paint than any public road. Cars ahead throw gravel off the run-off areas, hot tyres shed rubber “marbles” that stick to the bodywork, and a kerb or grass strike sprays dirt along the sills. Brake dust settles on the rear bumper too.

Our Track Pack is built for this. It adds the lower sills, A-pillars, front edge of the roof and rear bumper edges to the Full Front End, so the panels that take a beating on a lapping day stay covered. On a performance car, original paint is a big part of resale value, and film keeps it intact.

Self-healing film and aftercare

Modern PPF has a self-healing top layer. Fine swirls and light scratches, the kind left by a gritty wash mitt or a brush past a hedge, fade on their own or with gentle warmth. Deep impacts can still mark the film, but it’s the film that takes the damage, not your paint, and a damaged section can be replaced.

Looking after it is simple:

  • Hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and a clean mitt.
  • Keep pressure-washer nozzles well back from the film edges.
  • Rinse off bird droppings and bug splatter promptly, especially in summer.
  • Rinse off winter salt regularly rather than letting it build up.

We’ll talk you through aftercare when you collect.

FAQs

Can I still see the film?

It’s designed to be almost invisible. It’s cut to fit your exact model, so it keeps the original colour and finish of your paint.

Is PPF better than a ceramic coating?

They do different jobs. A ceramic coating adds gloss and makes washing easier, but it’s a thin layer that won’t stop a stone chip. PPF is a physical barrier that absorbs impacts.

Can I choose a satin look?

Gloss film keeps the factory shine. Satin PPF can give gloss paint a matte look while protecting it. Ask us which finishes suit your car.

Should I protect a new car straight away?

Ideally yes, before it covers many miles. Chips start building up from the first few journeys, so fitting early protects the paint while it’s perfect.

Do you wrap cars too?

Yes. See recent wraps and PPF work on our projects page.
