// How to Personalise Your Car: Wraps, PPF, Tints & More

Most cars on UK roads look pretty much as they did when they left the factory, in the same red, black, white or silver as everything else. If you’d rather your car reflected you, the good news is there are plenty of ways to make it unique, from a complete colour change to the smallest details inside the cabin.

Some options are permanent, while others can be removed or changed whenever you fancy something new, so you can customise to your heart’s content without worrying about the original finish. Here are the most popular options.

Change the colour: vehicle wrapping vs a respray

A respray involves sanding down the original paintwork, preparing the surface and spraying on new paint in the colour of your choice. Done properly, it can look incredible and gives a permanent finish. However, it often takes a long time, can be very expensive and can’t be reversed.

That’s why many drivers choose vehicle wrapping instead. A thin, pliable vinyl is heated and stretched so it moulds to the exact shape of your car, giving it a completely new colour and finish. A wrap is often cheaper than painting, and because it’s fully removable, it won’t damage the paint underneath or affect resale value. It even adds a layer of protection against UV rays, scuffs, stone chips and abrasions.

The choice is huge. With more than 500 colours available from trusted manufacturers such as 3M, Avery, Hexis and Inozetek, you can go for gloss, matte, satin, chrome, colour shift, holographic, glitter and more. And you can change it again whenever you fancy. You can opt for a full wrap or a partial wrap if you’d rather pick out just some panels.

Protect your paint with PPF

Personalising your car is also about keeping it looking its best. Paint protection film (PPF) is a transparent polyurethane film that forms an almost invisible shield over your paintwork. It guards against stone chips, scratches, road debris, bird droppings, bugs and other environmental damage. It’s also self-healing, so light surface scratches disappear with heat.

We’re ProFilm trained installers and use their premium films, cut with an up-to-date template database and professional plotter for a clean, near-invisible finish. You can protect just the areas most exposed to chips, such as the front end, or cover every painted panel. Our PPF installations come with a 7 to 12 year warranty.

Window and light tinting

Tinted windows are one of the most popular modifications around, and for good reason. They give a sleek, sporty and private look, and quality films also help to reduce glare, block UV rays and keep the cabin cooler. If you want something really different, chameleon tints shift colour depending on the angle you view them from.

Before you choose, it’s important to understand the law. In the UK, your windscreen must let through at least 75% of light and your front side windows at least 70%, so tints that are too dark there aren’t road legal. Our window and light tinting service is designed to keep you compliant, and we’ll talk you through the options.

Light tinting is another great finishing touch. A film applied over your headlights or taillights gives a smoked, sporty look, often hiding the bulbs until they’re switched on, without affecting how the lights work. It can protect your lights too, and clear PPF is also an option for added peace of mind.

Dechroming for a stealth look

Lots of modern cars come with chrome window trims, grilles and badges, which some drivers feel can look a bit dated. Dechroming swaps all or some of that chrome for gloss black, giving a stealthy look. We can cover window trims, grilles, headlight surrounds, interior trims, badges and wing mirrors. It’s one of the most cost-effective modifications you can make, and it can be easily removed when it’s time to sell, return or trade in the car.

Wheels and brake calipers

Alloy wheels are one of the most common aftermarket upgrades. They’re usually made from aluminium and can be lighter than standard wheels, with the potential to improve handling, although many people choose them simply for the look.

Our wheel refurbishment service repairs kerb rash, dents, scuffs and scrapes and restores wheels to OEM standard. You can also change the colour, from matt black to bright orange, or have diamond cut wheels brought back to an as-new finish. To complete the look, brake caliper painting adds a striking pop of colour.

Upgrade the interior

Personalisation doesn’t stop at the bodywork. For real wow factor, a starlight headliner uses fibre optics to create a night-sky effect across your roof lining. It’s fully customisable in colour, pattern and brightness, with different modes controlled by remote or app, and shooting stars can be added too.

There are smaller touches as well. Seat covers, steering wheel covers, headrest collars, seatbelt covers and car mats in your favourite colours or designs are easy wins.

Decals and personalised number plates

Decals are a fun way to add something unique. You can buy ready-made designs or create your own and have them printed and cut. Like wrapping, quality vinyl decals can be removed without damaging the paint. If you’d like your car to advertise your business, our fleet branding service adds logos and contact details.

A personalised number plate is another nice touch. Many people choose a registration that includes their name, initials or a date that means something to them. You can check whether the registration you want is available and buy it through the DVLA.

Performance modifications: proceed with care

Some modifications change how a car drives rather than how it looks. Lowering the suspension is a classic example. It’s associated with better aerodynamics, grip and handling, but because the suspension is so important to the feel and ride of the car, it’s always something to change with care. Go too low and the car can bottom out, which can damage it and undo any handling gains.

Finish with detailing and ceramic protection

Whatever you choose, a proper detail is the perfect finishing touch. Our detailing and protection packages range from valets to paint correction that removes swirl marks and light scratches, plus ceramic coatings that keep your car looking better for longer with minimal maintenance.

How to choose the right option

Start by asking how permanent you want the change to be. If you like to switch things up, wraps, tints, dechroming and decals can all be changed or removed later. If protection is your priority, PPF and ceramic coatings are the way to go. You can also combine several services for a complete transformation. Not sure where to start? Frequently asked questions

Is a wrap better than a respray?

For most drivers, a wrap is the more flexible option. It’s often cheaper than paint, offers a huge choice of finishes and is fully removable, so your original paintwork stays protected. A respray is permanent and usually takes longer.

What’s the difference between a wrap and PPF?

A wrap changes your car’s colour or finish. PPF is a clear, self-healing film designed mainly to protect your existing paint from chips and scratches.

Are tinted windows legal in the UK?

Yes, as long as your windscreen lets through at least 75% of light and your front side windows at least 70%. We’ll recommend a tint that keeps you road legal.
